Customers warned to exercise caution when buying mobile phones

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) warned the customers to be careful when buying mobile phones from the market, The News reported Sunday.

The telecom regulator issued a statement advising the people to be exercise caution when handling cloned or duplicate mobile devices.

To ensure a secure purchase, the PTA recommended that the consumers get phones in their original packaging, verify their IMEI numbers match those printed on the boxes, and check for its stamp on the boxes.

They can validate their devices by using the DVS app, sending an SMS with their IMEI number to 8484, and visiting the PTA website, said the statement.

The regulator warned people against buying expensive devices at suspiciously low prices or without a warranty.

It said if customers suspected fraud, they should ensure their devices are packaged, contact the seller, and report any issues to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for action.
