Punjab sets up first intelligence fusion and threat assessment centre

PNN: Punjab has become the first province in the country to establish the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC) to strengthen intelligence coordination and internal security.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif visited the newly established centre and received a detailed briefing on PIFTAC’s functions and the overall law and order situation in the province.

During the briefing, a decision was taken to establish an anti-drone unit in Punjab for the first time, which received the chief minister’s approval. She also directed the immediate creation of a dedicated cybercrime cell to counter emerging digital threats.

The chief minister ordered continuous combing operations across the province to ensure the protection of life and property. She further instructed authorities to take immediate steps for installing state-of-the-art digital scanners at all entry and exit points of Punjab.

To enhance monitoring, a special dashboard has been set up for deputy commissioners of all districts to ensure effective oversight and timely response to security challenges. Maryam Nawaz also directed that the whistleblower system be strengthened to help curb terrorism and criminal activities.

She announced that an AI hub would be established within PIFTAC to improve cybersecurity and enhance operational capabilities. Emphasising a proactive security strategy, the chief minister said authorities must focus on pre-emptive action rather than reacting after incidents occur.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif said the provincial government is committed to making Punjab the safest province in the country and will utilise all available resources to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
