WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is developing a new chat lock feature that would enable users to secure their private conversations inside the service’s web client, enhancing the security of these kinds of conversations.
According to a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp is working on integrating a locked chat option onto its web client. To add an extra layer of security and privacy to private conversations, the encrypted chats will most likely be stored in a separate tab.
Sources, as per Live Mint, claim that the feature is being worked on and will be added in a later web client version.
Meanwhile, users of Android devices might no longer be able to save their movies, pictures, and chat histories for free on Google Drive, the most widely used messaging app worldwide.
Customers may soon have to worry about WhatsApp data exceeding their Google Drive storage limit as a result of this update, which may prompt them to consider getting a Google One membership as a remedy.
Whether you were using Google’s free or premium cloud storage plan, Meta-owned WhatsApp was storing chat backups on your Google Drive account. This uses the storage associated with the Gmail account linked to your WhatsApp, which increases the amount of space used by backups from Google Photos, Gmail, and other sources on your Google Drive.
You can decide not to back up your WhatsApp conversations to the cloud if you don’t want to pay for the Google One plan and don’t want to use up all of your Google Drive storage for discussion backups. They may choose to use the built-in WhatsApp Chat Transfer feature instead when they get a new Android phone.
