According to the report of the International group of Pakistan News Network, CNN (Wednesday) reported the agreement between Washington and Doha for the 10-year extension of the US military presence in the large “Al-Adeed” base, citing four officials of this country.

The Reuters news agency also quoted an informed source and wrote that the two countries have reached an agreement in this regard and the news will be officially announced.

This base plays a central role in US air operations in Afghanistan and West Asia and can accommodate up to 10,000 soldiers and is considered the “largest US military facility in the Middle East”.

Last December, US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin, during a trip to Qatar and attended the Al-Adeed base, appreciated the increase in spending by the Qatari government in this base.

Qatar is considered one of the main allies of the United States in the region, so that the United States refers to Qatar as a “non-NATO ally” that has strategic relations with the country’s military.

The news of the agreement to extend the presence of the US in this base is published while Qatar has played an effective role as a mediator in the negotiations related to the war in Gaza, and this has led to regular talks between US President Joe Biden and Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
