42 Palestinian journalists arrested in 2025.
The union stressed in its report that the occupying authorities have continued their systematic crackdown on journalists and reporters, including arbitrary and administrative arrests, beatings, deportations, confiscation of media equipment, and forced interrogations, to silence news coverage and weaken the national media structure.
The union continued its report by reporting on a dangerous shift in the pattern of arrests, including a focus on influential journalists, repeated arrests of journalists, the expansion of administrative detention without charge, and the use of physical and psychological violence as a deterrent.
The report documented dozens of cases in which journalists were arrested while carrying out field missions and covering raids, an action that the Palestinian Journalists Union said was an attempt to eliminate witnesses. The report also noted the increase in raids on journalists’ homes and their detention in front of their families, a method aimed at breaking the journalists’ morale and social standing.
The union went on to describe administrative detention as the most dangerous form of repression, as it turns journalists into “prisoners of conscience without a time limit” and is a clear violation of international law.
The report also reported beatings, dragging them to the ground, threats with weapons, and confiscation of equipment without return, all of which were carried out to cripple the journalists’ professional capacity.
The union concluded the report by calling on the United Nations and international human rights bodies to intervene quickly and hold accountable and prosecute the perpetrators and instigators of crimes against Palestinian journalists.
According to IRNA, the Zionist occupiers have been continuously targeting journalists and media outlets since the start of the Zionist regime’s genocidal war in the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023.
During the Zionist regime’s unequal war in Gaza, organizations related to journalistic activities, human rights, and international organizations have called for strict measures to be taken to prevent the Zionist regime’s attacks on journalists and media outlets and their deliberate targeting by the Israeli army, but this criminal regime continues to target journalists and media outlets by ignoring these requests.
