A look back at Türkiye’s goals in Iraq.
Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani’s visit to Ankara was the top news item and featured in the headlines and photos of the front pages of Turkish newspapers.
Many newspapers close to the Justice and Development Party have preferred to highlight the issue of Ankara-Baghdad security cooperation on the front page and in a prominent headline.
They have described the joint fight against terrorism as the main goal of the Erdogan-Sudani meeting. This is while Erdogan himself has announced that the PKK will be dissolved today and tomorrow, and cannot be a security threat.
By evaluating this behavior of the media and newspapers close to the AK Party, we come to the conclusion that the Erdogan government tends to put cooperation in the field of combating terrorism in the spotlight regarding Ankara-Baghdad relations and, in the background, put efforts to maximize the use of Iraq’s economic resources on the agenda.
