A new wave of arrests begins in Türkiye.
According to Rossiya İl-Yum, Turkish authorities have arrested 47 more people in connection with the “Istanbul Municipality Corruption” case.
According to the report, Turkish police have detained 47 people in Istanbul and Ankara. The director general of the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Authority and the head of the office of former Istanbul mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu are also among those detained.
At least 94 people were arrested on March 19, including Ekrem İmamoğlu, a political rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
His arrest sparked widespread protests among Turkish citizens, as Ekrem İmamoğlu was considered the candidate of the People’s Party of Turkey in the upcoming presidential election.
