According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Sky News, the Prime Minister of Malta announced that he intends to recognize the state of Palestine at the United Nations General Assembly in September.

These remarks by the Maltese Prime Minister came a few hours after similar remarks by the British Prime Minister and a few days after statements by French officials about recognizing the state of Palestine.

The Maltese Prime Minister added that the country is committed to efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.

Previously, the opposition movement in Malta had called for the immediate recognition of the state of Palestine in mid-July.

Ireland, Norway, and Spain also recognized the state of Palestine last May.
