Agreement between Hamas and Israel for a ceasefire and prisoner exchange.
Russia Today quoted the Israeli Channel 11 as saying that under the agreement, the parties have committed to halting military operations and initiating a transitional phase in the Gaza Strip by releasing all prisoners.
According to the terms of the agreement, Hamas is required to provide all available information about the dead to a special international mechanism to be formed with the participation of Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and possibly the International Committee of the Red Cross, within 72 hours of the agreement coming into effect.
It has also been stipulated that the process of releasing the Israeli prisoners will be carried out without any official ceremony or media coverage in order to prevent any political or propaganda exploitation.
The agreement has also been overseen by an international team consisting of representatives from the United States, Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, and other countries that the parties agree on.
Sources familiar with the negotiations have announced that the agreement is considered the most important part of the first phase of Trump’s plan, and additional annexes have been included to ensure its full implementation.
In this regard, White House officials have announced that Washington hopes that the Israeli army will completely withdraw from Gaza in the next stages. They have emphasized that monitoring the implementation of the agreement will be based on the principle of “trust and verification.”
At an emergency meeting of the Israeli cabinet that ended on Friday morning, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu agreed to the plan to release Palestinian prisoners, saying: “We would not have reached this point without the special assistance of the US President and his team.”
The Israeli Prime Minister specifically thanked Steve Whitaker, the US special envoy to the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law.
Netanyahu, who launched a devastating war against the residents of Gaza and committed war crimes in the region, failed to achieve the declared goals of the war, namely the destruction of Hamas and the release of Zionist prisoners in Gaza, after two years of war. In a statement that contradicted the facts, he said: “We are in the midst of a fateful development. One of the main goals of the war was to return all the hostages (Zionist prisoners in Gaza), both alive and dead, and this goal will be achieved.”
After two years of brutal attacks and genocide in Gaza, he aroused the world’s anger against the Zionists and isolated the Israeli regime even more than before. Continuing his rhetoric, he claimed that extensive military pressure and diplomatic efforts isolated the Hamas movement and brought it to the negotiating table.
Steve Witkoff, the US special envoy to the Middle East, also said in remarks that indicated the failure of the Zionist regime that “Netanyahu’s courage in making difficult decisions was the main factor in reaching this agreement.”
According to the Russia Today network, more details about the timetable for implementing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and the mechanisms for international monitoring of this agreement are expected to be released in the coming hours.
According to IRNA, on the morning of Thursday, October 9, 2025 (17 Mehr 1404), the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) issued a statement officially announcing the achievement of an agreement to end the war in Gaza and exchange prisoners. This agreement came into effect an hour ago.
Indirect negotiations between Palestinian and Israeli delegations to discuss a ceasefire in Gaza and prepare the ground for a prisoner exchange in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, began on Monday, October 6, 2025, corresponding to 14 Mehr 1404, and representatives from the United States, including Steve Whittaker, the US special envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law, joined the negotiations.
