Ahmed Al-Sharaa: Israel seeks to exploit the transitional phase in Syria.
In his speech at the UN General Assembly, Ahmed al-Sharaa called on the international community to respect his country’s national sovereignty.
He also called for an end to sanctions against his country.
The head of the Syrian interim government claimed that some parties are trying to foment sectarian differences and create a civil war to try to implement the project of dividing and dismembering Syria.
Regarding the Zionist regime, he said: “Israeli threats against our country have not decreased since December 8 (18 Azar 1403) until today, and Israel’s policies, contrary to the international position in support of Syria and its people, are based on abusing the transitional stage in Syria.”
Al-Sharaa continued: “We support the people of Gaza and its children and other nations that are exposed to aggression.”
Regarding Syria’s policy to confront Israeli aggression on its territory, he added: “We rely on dialogue and diplomacy to overcome the crisis of Israeli aggression and adhere to the 1974 ceasefire agreement, and we call on the international community to stand by us in confronting the dangers of Israel and respecting Syria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
Al-Shara continued: “Since the fall of the former regime, our policy has been clear and based on balanced diplomacy, establishing security stability, and economic development, and we have tried to fill the power vacuum.”
He claimed: “The former regime used the worst means of torture against the people, killed about one million people, and destroyed about two million homes, and Syria has now become a country that seeks peace and prosperity. I pledge to bring to justice anyone whose hands are stained with the blood of the people.”
The head of the Syrian interim government also claimed: “The former regime targeted the weak and helpless people with chemical weapons in more than 200 documented attacks.”
He pointed out that he wanted a comprehensive national dialogue, claiming to be trying to form a decent government and strengthen the principle of participation.
Al-Shara added: “We thank Turkey, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, all Arab and Islamic countries, the United States and the European Union.”
