Ahmed Al-Sharaa: Syria opposes broad agreements to normalize relations with Israel.

In the interview, which was conducted at his residence in Washington, Ahmed al-Shara, known as Abu Muhammad al-Julani, stressed that any future agreement with Israel must include the return of occupied Syrian territories.

He added: “We prefer an agreement that returns the Syrian territories that have been occupied since December, and we do not support the broad agreements normalizing relations with Israel that the Trump administration has encouraged other countries to sign.”

The head of the Syrian interim government described the negotiations with the Israeli regime as difficult but ongoing, adding that these talks are underway with the support of the United States and international parties.

Al-Shara also stated: “The United States is the only country that can control Israel’s behavior.”

The terms of the agreement and the need to lift sanctions
The head of the Syrian interim government stressed that any future agreement with Israel must include the regime’s withdrawal to the positions it held before the fall of the Bashar al-Assad regime.

He also considered the lifting of sanctions to be a fundamental condition for the reconstruction of Syria, saying: “The majority of members of the US Congress that I met with supported the lifting of sanctions.”

Al-Shara added: “US President Donald Trump’s policies show that he supports the stability and unity of Syria and wants the complete lifting of sanctions.”

He also stated that the US government believes that Syria should have the opportunity to achieve stability, rebuild its economy, and protect its territorial integrity.

No direct dialogue with Israel

According to this report, the head of the Syrian interim government, Ahmed Al-Shara, stated in a separate interview with Fox News that Syria has not held any direct negotiations with Israel.

At the same time, he added that Washington could play a role in facilitating some kind of dialogue with the Israeli side.

The head of the Syrian interim government emphasized that the situation in Syria is different from the countries that signed the Abraham Accords, and that Syria currently has no intention of entering the path of normalizing relations with the Israeli regime.
