Ahmed Al-Sharaa: There will be no permanent gap between us and the Iranians.

In an exclusive interview with the Syrian Al-Ikhbariya network, the head of the interim government, Ahmed Al-Shara, added: “The fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime was a deep wound for Iran; however, we are not saying that the gap between us and the Iranians will be permanent.”

He explained that his country is “in the process of negotiating a security agreement with Israel to return to the 1974 agreement or a similar format.”

Al-Shara claimed that Russia’s withdrawal from the military scene in the liberation war (to overthrow the Bashar al-Assad regime) was within the framework of a joint agreement.

He said that Israel wanted Syria to be a country that conflicted with a regional country and to become a field for continuous conflict and settling scores.

Al-Shara clarified: Israel had a plan to divide Syria and wanted to turn it into a field for conflict with the Iranians or something similar, and was surprised by the fall of the regime. Israel has a habit of compensating for its intelligence problems and security failures, sometimes by showing excessive power and being overly cautious in security matters.

The head of the Syrian interim government continued: Israel considered the fall of the regime to mean Syria’s withdrawal from the 1974 agreement, although Damascus showed its commitment to this agreement from the very first moment and wrote a letter to the United Nations, and asked the “UNDOF” forces to return to the previous status. Also, negotiations are underway to establish a security agreement and return Israel to the conditions before December 8.

He clarified: Syria does not want to be in a state of worry and tension with any country in the world. Therefore, the ball is in the court of the countries that want to stir up sedition and create chaos in Syria. Damascus seeks complete peace in relations with all countries in the world and the region, and this has been a clear policy from the very first moment.
