Al-Akhbar reports that Lebanese-Israeli tensions will persist absent significant shifts in either side’s stance.
Al-Akhbar newspaper stated in its article: In the case of the tension between Lebanon and the Israeli regime, despite recent movements, there has not yet been a fundamental change in the main positions of the parties. The current pressure from the US is because it says that it has put pressure on “Israel” to stop the war in Lebanon about a year ago, and the recent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, but political changes must occur to maintain stability in the region.
The newspaper added: Informed sources say that the Americans have told the Arab countries that they are no longer able to put more pressure on “Israel”. In fact, Washington supports the narrative and claims of “Israel” on most issues, whether regarding Lebanon and Syria, or regarding Gaza. The US is asking Arab mediators to accelerate the process of normalizing relations with “Israel” so that military conflicts can stop through political and security agreements.
According to Al-Akhbar, reports from Washington indicate that Trump, who is tired of Middle East issues, has decided to appoint someone to coordinate among his envoys in the region. He has asked some people close to him, such as Steve Whittaker and Morgan Ortagus, to submit a detailed report on their activities by the middle of next month. These reports are to be reviewed with “regional friends,” namely Israel and the United Arab Emirates, since the Emirates cooperates closely with the United States on security plans.
Al-Akhbar added: As for Lebanon, because the country refuses to negotiate directly with Israel, the United States cannot force Tel Aviv to stop its military operations. Israeli officials claim that Hezbollah is strengthening its military organization. Accordingly, it is expected that Israel’s limited attacks on Lebanon will continue, without engaging in a large-scale war like last year.
