The “Samoud” fleet powerfully illustrated the resolve of nations, standing in stark contrast to the inaction of Arab governments.
The Lebanese newspaper “Al-Akhbar” in a report written by “Imad Yaghi” discussed the departure of the “Samoud” global naval fleet to break the siege of the Gaza Strip and the reaction of the free nations and people of the world to help the Palestinian people and in response to the silence and inaction of the Arab governments regarding the situation in this region.
Yaghi wrote: The “Samoud” global naval fleet is a humanitarian cry to express the pain and suffering of the Palestinian people, which was born from the heart of the Mediterranean Sea and is trying to create a hole in the wall of the siege of the Gaza Strip.
In the meantime, more painful than the bullets of Israeli drones is the silence of the Arab governments; a silence that amounts to complicity with Israel or at least their shirk from their claimed duty.
According to him, while these activists from Asia, Europe, and Latin America have been expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people and shouting for freedom and assistance to the Gaza Strip, Arab governments have been mired in a quagmire of issuing lifeless statements that neither feed the hungry people of Gaza nor lift the siege on the region.
According to Al-Akhbar, the Samood flotilla did not emerge from the heart of the exhausted Arab League or from the heart of the Arab Council of Foreign Ministers, which prioritize calculations and trade-offs over principles and foundations. This flotilla was born from the will of nations, encompassing student unions, popular movements, civil society organizations, and humanitarian alliances, and decided to sail to Gaza from Genoa, Barcelona, Tunisia, and Malaysia. These activists in the Samood global flotilla did not ask questions about the balance of power or futile negotiations, but their only question was: how can the world hear the voice of Gaza?
The Global Fleet’s journey has not been a smooth one, as drones have attacked and dropped sonic bombs on ships near the island of Crete. Ships’ engines have failed along the way, and Israel has mobilized its navy and publicly threatened to stop the fleet by force. But in the meantime, every wave has been a test, and every mile has emphasized that humanity is stronger than iron. Resilience means knowing that danger lurks around you, that you may be detained or injured, but you still keep going.
