Al-Jolani: Security agreement with Israel is a necessity

PNN – The leader of the Syrian regime announced that talks with Israel may reach a conclusion in the coming days.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al Jazeera Qatar, Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, the leader of the Syrian ruling group, told Reuters: Our talks with Israel may lead to tangible results in the coming days.

He also emphasized: A security agreement with Israel is a necessity and must include respect for Syria’s airspace and territorial integrity.

Al-Jolani added: If the security agreement with Israel is successful, other agreements can be reached. But peace and normalization of relations are not on the agenda at the moment.

He also claimed: The United States is not putting any pressure on Damascus to reach an agreement with Israel.

Last night, the American news outlet Axios, citing a source it called informed, announced that the Israeli regime had presented a detailed proposal for a new security agreement to the Golan regime, which includes a map from southwest Damascus to the border with the occupied territories.

According to the report, Asaad Al-Shaibani, the Foreign Minister of the Golani regime, and Ron Dermer, the Minister of Strategic Affairs of the Israeli regime, discussed and exchanged views on this proposal on Wednesday in London, in the presence of Tom Barak, the US envoy for Syria.

Axios further wrote that the Israeli proposal would divide southwest Damascus into three areas, each with different security arrangements.

According to this American media outlet, the proposal is based on expanding the buffer zone on Syrian territory, and the presence of military forces and heavy weapons on the border with the occupied territories is prohibited.

According to Axios, based on the Israeli regime’s proposal, the entire southwest Damascus area up to the border with the occupied territories will be a no-fly zone for Syrian aircraft.

The Golani regime confirmed the meeting of its officials with the Israeli regime.

A Golani regime official told Al Jazeera about the meeting between the regime’s officials and the Israeli regime: Syrian Foreign Minister Asad Al-Shaibani and Israeli Minister Ron Dermer met in London, where they discussed ending tensions.

The official, whose name and position were not mentioned, added: The meeting between Sheibani and Dermer in London was about ceasing tensions based on the 1974 agreement.

He added: The Syrian delegation emphasized that regional security can only be achieved by respecting Syria’s sovereignty and independence.

The Golani regime official added: The Syrian proposal requires Israel to withdraw from the areas it occupied after December 8.

The Golani regime official said: We explained that lasting peace requires resolving the roots of tension in the region, foremost among them the occupation.

Five-hour conversation between Golani and Israeli ministers in London

Israeli media reported that Dermer’s meeting with Al-Shaibani lasted five hours, during which the Golani regime official presented his response to Israel’s proposal for a security agreement.
