Al-Manar: Suspected unrest on the way to Beirut airport.
According to Al-Manar, while protesters were gathering on the road to Beirut’s Rafik Hariri Airport in response to the Lebanese government’s illegal move to prevent Lebanese pilgrims from entering the country via Iranian airlines, these protests led to suspicious unrest.
Accordingly, while protesters were peacefully protesting the Lebanese government’s policies for the second consecutive night, some unknown elements started causing unrest.
In one of these cases, a convoy of vehicles from the United Nations peacekeepers in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL, was attacked and one of the vehicles was set on fire. Following the attack, a peacekeeper was injured.
After the unrest broke out, Lebanese army forces intervened and dispersed the protesters.
Nabih Berri, leader of the Amal movement and an ally of Lebanon’s Hezbollah, called on street protesters to exercise patience and leave the streets to prevent division.
The Amal Movement also issued a statement condemning the attacks on the UN UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon and calling for the Lebanese army and security forces to deal with the perpetrators of tonight’s unrest.
The Lebanese Amal Movement also considered the attack on the UNIFIL forces an attack on southern Lebanon and emphasized: Blocking roads anywhere in the country is a dagger to internal peace and reconciliation.
Al-Manar reported: There is information about masked individuals who are organizing a suspicious movement with the aim of creating chaos on the airport road and it is requested that the people not be behind such movements.
