Al-Monitor: Netanyahu seeks to satisfy Trump with a ceasefire in Lebanon

PNN – The American analytical site Al-Monitor reported that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is ready to establish a truce with Lebanon in order to obtain the consent of the President-elect of the United States, Donald Trump.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the Al-Monitor analytical site quoted unnamed diplomatic sources and wrote: Netanyahu is ready to sign a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, but this agreement must also include the military role of the United States.

These sources added that Netanyahu’s decision is in line with his desire to gain the approval of US President-elect Donald Trump.

“Amos Hochstein”, the US special envoy to the region, after meeting with “Nabieh Berri”, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, said that a ceasefire agreement on the Lebanese front is “available”, but ultimately the realization of this ceasefire is related to the “decision of the parties”.

On Tuesday, after meeting with Nabih Berri, who is representing Hezbollah in these talks, Hochstein added that the talks were “constructive” and “very good for reducing differences.”

The American special envoy said: We have a real opportunity to end conflicts. The opportunity is now available.

He also told reporters that he would not answer any questions because he did not want to “talk about these negotiations publicly.”

Najib Mikati, the prime minister of Lebanon’s (temporary) government for the advancement of affairs, also emphasized the necessity of implementing UN resolutions and said that Beirut’s priority is to establish a ceasefire and stop the war while preserving Lebanon’s sovereignty.

Sanders: American people oppose sending weapons to Netanyahu’s war machine.

Miqati emphasized: Our priority is the ceasefire and the cessation of aggression against Lebanon and the preservation of sovereignty. All our efforts are to return the refugees to their villages and stop the genocidal war started by Israel and the blind destruction of the settlements. We emphasize the necessity of implementing international resolutions and strengthening the authority of the army in the south of the country.

Mahmoud Qomati, the deputy head of Hezbollah’s political council, said on Tuesday night that we do not expect this enemy to be transparent or honest: We will not provide any information about the negotiations now, because it is to the detriment of the Lebanese negotiator.

He added: What is important for us is to give hope to stop the aggression of the Zionist regime through the power of resistance.

Qomazi stated: We predict that the method used in the Gaza Strip against Hamas and that this movement was held responsible for the failure of negotiations, will continue in Lebanon as well.

Stating that “Lebanon and the people of this country are being martyred by American weapons”, Qamati clarified: Our concern now is the field and resistance. We do not expect this enemy to be transparent or honest and we have stated many times that we will never talk about any clause in the negotiations.

A few days ago, Nabih Bari told Al-Jhumorieh newspaper: The Israeli regime is worried that it will be forced to implement the series of decisions that were issued, especially Resolutions 242 and 338, and respect Resolution 1701, which it has violated more than 30,000 times.

“Ali Hassan Khalil”, a member of the Lebanese parliament, also said earlier: The enemy can commit more crimes, but he cannot change Lebanon’s positions.

The authorities of the Zionist regime have said that the condition of any ceasefire agreement with Lebanon is the regime’s absolute freedom of action, so that based on that, Tel Aviv can take action against any violation of this agreement.

“Ali Hassan Khalil”, a representative of the Lebanese parliament, stressed in response to this condition: No Lebanese will accept that Israel (regime) has freedom of action to operate in their country’s territory after the ceasefire.

He clarified: Hezbollah has repeatedly declared its adherence to Resolution 1701, but Israel is trying to add other conditions to this resolution.

The representative of the Lebanese Parliament stated: Lebanese people have a united position regarding adherence to Resolution 1701, and coordination has been made with the resistance in this regard.
