Al-Sudani: Bashar Assad did not request us to enter the army/ Maher Assad has not come to Iraq

PNN – The Prime Minister of Iraq Shia al-Sudani stressed that Bashar al-Assad’s regime did not request military entry from this country, and said that Bashar al-Assad’s brother did not go to Iraq after the fall of the country’s regime.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, Mohammad Shia al-Sudani, in an interview with al-Arabiya network, emphasized the need for coordination with Syria to control the borders and noted: Baghdad will not allow Syrian weapons and armed groups to enter Iraq.

He added: The government and political forces have an agreement about not interfering in the affairs of Damascus. We will not disrupt the security of Syria and the situation that arises will determine the possibility of traveling to this country.

Stressing on respecting the will of the Syrian people, Al-Sudani emphasized: We demand an inclusive political process in this country. We have announced our approach to the current situation in Syria to the government of this country and any disruption in Syrian prisons will cause us to face terrorist groups.

He said: Israel’s threats against Iraq are carried out with the aim of expanding the circle of war. We will not allow any side to bring Iraq into war and conflict. The decision of war and peace is with us.

The President of Iraq also condemned the genocides of the Zionist regime in Gaza.

Iraqi News Agency (WAA) recently quoted a high-ranking source as saying that an Iraqi delegation headed by Hamid al-Shatari, the head of Iraq’s intelligence agency and adviser to the prime minister of this country, and the accompanying delegation in Damascus, have discussed border protection and cooperation to prevent the return of the ISIS terrorist group with the Syrian authorities.

This knowledgeable official, who asked not to be named, told Waa news agency that the protection of the prisons where elements of the ISIS terrorist group are present was another focus of the Iraqi delegation’s discussion.

Hamid al-Shatari, the head of Iraq’s intelligence service and adviser to the prime minister of this country, and the accompanying delegation arrived in Damascus on Thursday and met with Ahmed al-Shora, alias Abu Muhammad al-Jolani, the leader of Tahrir al-Sham and the commander of the Syrian Military Operations Department.

The armed opposition in Syria started their operations in the northwestern, western and southwestern regions of Aleppo from November 27, 2024, with the aim of removing Bashar Assad from power, and finally after 11 days on Sunday, they took control of the city of Damascus and Assad left the country.

“Mohammed al-Bashir”, who was appointed as the head of the transitional period of Syria, officially assumed the headship of the transitional government of this country until next March.
