Al-Sudani: If America wants a relationship with Iraq, it must respect our sovereignty

Pak Sahafat – Emphasizing the need for America to respect the country’s sovereignty, the Iraqi Prime Minister said that American and British citizens were involved in the so-called “theft of the century” in Iraq.

According to the report of Pak Sahafat News Agency International Group, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammad Shia al-Sudani (Friday) emphasized that the fight against ISIS caused the sectarian discourse to disappear in Iraq.

Al-Sudani, who was present in an interview at the American Council on Foreign Relations, said: “We do not accept that any foreign party wants to change the political process in Iraq. Competition in this process is based on the mechanisms of the constitution, and this is a sign of stability in the political system.

Addressing America, he said that a difference should be made between a positive relationship with neighboring countries and a negative relationship that reaches the point of intervention: “All countries, including America, if they want to have relations with Iraq, they must respect the sovereignty of this country and the will of its people.”

Pointing out that some political groups in Iraq have connections with neighboring countries, the Iraqi Prime Minister stated: “Most of the parties in the upcoming elections are fledgling parties.”

In another part of this conversation, Al-Sudani addressed the issue of “theft of the century” in this country and stated: “Many heads of decision-making centers in Iraq were involved in this theft. High-ranking officials from the previous government were also involved in this case, and their arrest warrants have been issued.

Stating that some of these people are present in the United States and are citizens of this country and England, he pointed out: “More than three trillion dollars have been looted in front of the previous government and its security institutions. Most of these funds have been transferred to banks outside Iraq. We will also try to return the remaining part to Iraq.”

The beginning of extensive investigations related to corruption is after the discovery of the biggest financial corruption in the history of Iraq, in October of last year and two months before the end of the responsibility of former Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, caused a lot of noise. A corruption worth 3.7 trillion dinars (more than 2.5 billion dollars) that has killed many former officials.

This amount of corruption has occurred in the Iraqi Ministry of Finance and the Tax Organization of this country. Mustafa Al-Kazemi has said that all this corruption did not occur in his government and a huge part of it goes back to the previous governments, a claim that many current officials and members of the Iraqi parliament reject.
