America agrees to sell arms to Israel without congressional authorization

PNN – The US State Department has agreed to sell more weapons to Israel worth more than $147 million.

According to Pakistan News Network, the Pentagon announced that the US State Department has approved the sale of M107 projectiles and related equipment worth more than 147 million dollars to Israel.

In explaining the approval of this arms sale, the US State Department said that Israel is in an emergency situation that justifies the immediate sale to it.

The CNN website writes that the administration of US President Joe Biden has bypassed Congress to approve the sale of these weapons to Israel.

Anthony Blinken, the Secretary of State of the Biden administration, informed the Congress that he agreed to the immediate transfer of these weapons to Israel due to the recognition of the emergency situation.

A spokesperson for the US State Department said: “Given the urgency of Israel’s defense needs, the Secretary of State informed Congress that he has exercised his authority and deemed it necessary to send this equipment immediately.”

Joe Biden’s administration had previously approved the sale of another package of weapons to the Israeli regime this month without obtaining authorization from Congress.

This is despite the fact that many of the weapons sent by America to Israel have been secretly since the beginning of the war in Gaza.

About a month ago, the Wall Street Journal revealed in an exclusive report that the United States has provided Israel with massive mortar bombs and tens of thousands of other weapons and artillery shells to help Israel carry out military operations in Gaza.

In that report, the Wall Street Journal, citing American officials, reported that the increase in the shipment of weapons from the United States to Israel, which includes the shipment of 15,000 bombs and 57,000 artillery shells, began shortly after the October 7 attack and continues.

The Wall Street Journal wrote that the transfer of hundreds of millions of dollars of ammunition by C-17 military aircraft from the United States to Tel Aviv shows the diplomatic challenges facing the administration of the President of the United States, Joe Biden. On the one hand, the United States calls on its main ally in the region to avoid increasing civilian casualties, but on the other hand, to provide Tel Aviv with many of the ammunition that will be used to carry out those operations.

America has strongly supported the attacks of the Israeli regime after October 7. Joe Biden’s administration says it only supports a “ceasefire” in Gaza and is not in favor of a cease-fire that could benefit Hamas.

In addition, the Wall Street Journal reported that Joe Biden’s government has not published any statistics regarding arms transactions with Israel, contrary to its practice regarding the Ukraine war, which publicly announces the statistics on the shipment of weapons.

American officials have claimed that part of the reason for Washington’s silence in the issue of arms aid to Israel is that the weapons sent to Tel Aviv are done through a different mechanism, including through military sales. Additionally, Israel is the largest recipient of US military aid each year, receiving $3.8 billion annually.
