American commander: Red Sea is our greatest naval challenge since World War II

PNN – A senior commander of the US Navy described the conflicts in this area as the biggest naval battle since World War II, saying that Washington has so far sent about 7,000 sailors to the Red Sea.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, a senior commander of the US Navy recently said in an interview that the recent clashes against the Yemeni forces in the Red Sea was one of the biggest US naval battles in recent decades.

Brad Cooper, Deputy Commandant of the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), said in an interview with CBS News that aired on Monday: “I think we have to go back to World War II to talk about when our ships are in combat.”

He added: “When I say engaged in battle, I mean that the ships are fired at and we respond to these shots.”

In another part of this interview, this senior American commander stated that the US Navy has so far sent about 7,000 sailors to the Red Sea. CBS reported that the US also fired 100 surface-to-air missiles at Yemeni missiles and drones.

Since mid-November, Yemeni forces have carried out operations in the Red Sea against ships linked to Israel to support Palestinians who are targeted by Israel’s massive attacks. America has formed a coalition to counter these operations, which of course had no effect.

In addition, the United States and the United Kingdom have carried out airstrikes on the positions of Yemeni groups since several months ago. In response to this action, the Yemeni army expanded its operations to American and British ships, but said that traffic for other ships in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab strait is safe.

Brad Cooper claimed that it was “quite clear” that the Yemeni forces would not have been able to do this without Iran’s support. He claimed: “The Iranians have been supplying the Houthis with weapons for several decades. Right now, while we are sitting, they are supplying the Houthis with [weapons].”

The Islamic Republic of Iran has previously denied the claims of providing arms support to Yemeni groups. “Amir Saeed Irvani”, Iran’s representative in the United Nations, wrote on Monday in a letter to the Security Council regarding America’s claim about sending weapons to Yemen: Iran categorically rejects these baseless accusations and considers them as an excuse that the United States uses to justify and legitimize its illegal actions and military aggression against Yemen.
