American media: If negotiations with Iran are not direct, Whitaker’s trip may be canceled.
According to Al Jazeera Qatar, the Washington Post newspaper quoted an American official as saying: “If the talks with Iran are not direct, Steve Whittaker, Trump’s special representative for the Middle East, may not travel to Oman.”
The American official told the newspaper: “Whittaker’s team has sent messages to Iran through Oman demanding direct talks with Iran on Saturday.”
The official also emphasized, “We need a comprehensive understanding and dialogue with Iran, and we will never be deceived by Iran again.”
Meanwhile, several other American officials also claimed in an interview with the Washington Post: “If Whittaker receives an invitation to travel to Tehran, he will most likely travel to Iran.”
The American official told the Washington Post: “Trump’s official announcement about the start of direct talks with Iran, at the same time as welcoming Netanyahu, was a tool to control the Israeli Prime Minister.”
