PNN – An American publication revealed that during their recent trip to Switzerland, Chinese officials have thwarted the efforts of Ukrainians to arrange a meeting with the Chinese Prime Minister.
According to the International group of Pakistan News Network, The American publication “Paltico” quoting anonymous sources revealed that during their recent trip to Switzerland to participate in the World Economic Forum, Chinese officials rejected the Ukrainians’ request to hold a meeting between President Volodymyr Zelensky and Li Qiang, Prime Minister of China.
Politico stated in this report: “Ukrainian leaders did not hide their desire to hold a meeting with Chinese officials in Switzerland this week, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky returned home without making the desired meeting, and this is a blow to Kiev. Meanwhile, the Chinese delegation in Switzerland had a lot of opportunities to meet with their Ukrainian counterparts either in Bern or at the World Economic Forum in Davos.”
The article stated: “Before the recent international Ukrainian peace summit in Switzerland, Andriy Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian president’s office, said it was necessary for China to join these peace talks in Switzerland and implied that Zelensky would have an opportunity to talk with Chinese Premier Li Qiang. In the end, Ukraine did not make any progress in committing China to these talks, and Zelensky and Li Qiang did not talk either.”
“China appears to have deliberately decided not to have any meetings with the Ukrainians, rather than due to scheduling issues,” Politico wrote.
This American publication wrote that this is the latest sign that China does not want to pressure Russia regarding the war in Ukraine.
“Beijing rejected Kiev’s request for a meeting at one point during their mutual visits to Switzerland,” Politico wrote. Another senior American official said that China has opposed any meeting with Ukraine after Russia asked it to stop diplomatic meetings with Ukraine.
According to this American publication, a Ukrainian official denied this report and claimed that the Kyiv delegation had no plans for a meeting with Chinese officials and that Kyiv did not request such a meeting.
According to Politico, a high-ranking European official also said that the bloc asked China to make direct contact with Zelensky.
