American Republicans’ plan to pressure the Muslim lawmaker because of her anti-Israel positions

PNN – A Republican member of the US House of Representatives is seeking to pass a resolution condemning Omar Ilhan, a Muslim member of this legislative body, among the protesting pro-Palestinian students, accusing her of anti-Semitism.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from Axios news site, a House Republican is preparing a resolution to censure the Muslim House Democrat for accusing some Jewish students of pro-genocide during a visit to Columbia University last week.

The Republican-controlled legislature has repeatedly passed resolutions condemning and punishing Omar for her anti-Israel stances and alleged inflammatory rhetoric.

It is said that this American congressman, during his visit to Columbia University as a sign of support for the Palestinian supporters who are camping on the university campus, was asked by a reporter about the alleged anti-Semitic incidents in these protests.

This lawmaker of Somali descent said in response: “I’ve actually met a lot of Jewish students who are here, and I think it’s really unfortunate that people don’t care about the fact that all Jewish kids need to be safe.”

She added: “We must not tolerate anti-Semitism or bigotry against all Jewish students, whether pro-genocide or anti-genocide.”

These statements caused Don Bacon, one of the Republican members of the House of Representatives, to consider his action offensive. In an interview with Axios, she said: “Talking about Jewish students who support genocide is wrong.”

She said: “People can protest Israel, but don’t blame Jewish-American students for Israel. This is anti-Semitism.”

On the other hand, Ilhan Omar’s spokesperson Jacqueline Rogers said in an interview with the same news site: “As a congressman, Omar clearly condemned anti-Semitism and bigotry for all Jewish students. “The attempt to misinterpret his words by drafting this groundless resolution is aimed at diverting minds from the continuous violence and genocide in Gaza and the large anti-war demonstrations throughout our country and around the world.”

Earlier, in February, Omar was removed from the foreign relations committee of this institution due to her anti-Israeli statements, which members of both parties of the House of Representatives called anti-Semitic.

According to Axios, the dismissal of this representative of the state of Minnesota was among the first actions of the Republican Party after taking control of the majority of the House of Representatives.

Rashidah Talib, another democratic member of this parliament, was also convicted in November of last year for defending the slogan “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be freed”.
