American senator: If we lose the war in Ukraine, the result will be 10 times worse than Afghanistan

Pak Sahafat – A Republican representative in the US Senate said that if Ukraine loses the war against Russia, the result for the US will be 10 times worse than Afghanistan.

According to Pak Sahafat International News Group, Lindsey Graham, a representative of South Carolina in the US Senate, warned Donald Trump, the leading candidate of the Republican Party in the 2024 elections, on Monday, about cutting off military and financial support to Ukraine.

According to the report of the Independent newspaper, Senator Graham warned that if Trump stops sending aid to Ukraine, the result for the United States will be “10 times worse than Afghanistan.”

The turbulent withdrawal of the United States from Afghanistan in 2021 has been interpreted by many analysts as the failure of the United States in this country after 20 years of war there.

Asked what his advice would be to Trump and other Republicans in Congress who are threatening to cut off aid to Ukraine, Graham said: “I say to President Trump and everyone else: if we cut off aid to Ukraine, the result will be 10 times worse than Afghanistan.”

Graham added: “Cutting off financial support to Ukraine is like a death sentence for Taiwan.” Putin will continue. “If someone doesn’t understand how this story ends, they don’t understand the whole of World War II.”

The Republican senator also criticized a group of his fellow party members who want to stop supporting Ukraine. “To the Republicans who say we don’t care about Ukraine: You’re wrong,” he said. With all due respect, you are wrong. “This war will get bigger, not smaller.”

He further added: “If Ukraine can defeat Russia, it will be less likely that China will attack Taiwan and Putin will stop his actions.”

Considering the close relationship between Graham and Trump, the host asked him if he would like his friend to publicly support Ukraine or not. “I’ll leave it up to him to decide what he wants to do,” Graham said.

On February 24, 2022, after recognizing the independence of Luhansk and Donetsk republics from Ukraine, Russia sent troops to this region and announced the beginning of “special military operations in Ukraine”.

Russia has announced its goal of this action is to de-Nazify Ukraine, disarm this country, resolve its security concerns and respond to Luhansk and Donetsk’s request for help.

However, the Ukrainian government has not recognized the independence of Donetsk and Luhansk and has called Russia’s military presence an “aggression and attack on its territorial integrity”.

Following the beginning of Russia’s conflict with Ukraine, while condemning Moscow and intensifying economic pressures, Western countries have put all-round political, financial, and weapons support for Kiev on the agenda.

Russia has strongly opposed any move to join Ukraine in NATO, with Russian President Vladimir Putin warning that it would be a “red line” for Russia.

Ukraine has announced its desire to join NATO since 2008. This action was strongly opposed by Russia. The Russian government emphasized that the expansion of the NATO area to the former Soviet territories threatens national security and its sphere of influence.

Donald Trump has repeatedly claimed that if he wins the 2024 presidential election, he can quickly end the war in Ukraine within a few hours.

Russian President Vladimir Putin responded to Trump’s statements a few weeks earlier and said: “Mr. Trump says he can solve all difficult issues, including the Ukraine crisis, within a few days. We can’t feel anything but happy about this.”

Trump responded to Putin’s comments a few days later, saying, “I’m glad he said that because it means what I’m saying is true. I will take him into the room and Zelensky into the room, and then I will bring them together and make an agreement between them.”

A group of Republican representatives, like Trump, have opposed sending military and financial aid to Ukraine. For example, Taylor Green, a representative of the state of Georgia, said a few weeks ago: “I will not vote for financial support for Ukraine. We must have peace.”
