Americans’ mistrust of the country’s media reached a record high

PNN – The findings of a new Gallup poll show that American adults trust the media at an all-time low, with only 31 percent of them having a lot of confidence in the media to report the news “completely, accurately and fairly.”

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, in this Gallup report, it is stated that this year’s level of trust has decreased by 1% compared to last year’s figure of 32%, thus it is at the lowest level since 1972 and the start of this assessment by Gallup Institute.

According to the findings of this survey, for the third year in a row, the number of people who expressed distrust towards the media was higher than other groups, and 36% of respondents distrusted newspapers, television and radio. Another 33% of Americans had “not much” trust in the media.

Based on the results of this survey, age and political differences have also played a decisive role in the level of people’s trust in the media. While 43% of all adults aged 65 and over have considerable trust in the media, only 26% of adults under 50 had this opinion.

54% of Democrats, 27% of independents and only 12% of Republicans said they trust the media “a lot” or “somewhat” this year.

According to the report, 67 percent of respondents said they had a “very high” or “somewhat” level of trust in local government, and only 34 percent said the same about Congress.

The level of trust of the respondents in the governors is 55% and the judgment of the American people in major issues is 54%.

Between 40 and 48 percent of respondents also expressed confidence in the judiciary (including the Supreme Court), politicians, the federal government’s handling of international problems, and the executive branch.

According to the poll, about 40 percent said they had a “very high” or “somewhat” level of trust in President Biden and the executive branch.

The Gallup poll was conducted by telephone among 1,077 adults between September 3 and 15 and has a margin of error of 4 percent.
