According to Politico, the results of a survey of more than 1,500 Americans have shown that a large part of Americans are willing to support leaders who violate most of the democratic principles in this country.
In this regard, surveys two decades ago in this country also showed that 1 out of 4 Americans support non-democratic leaders who are uncompromising. These people said that they want unelected experts to make decisions for them. Now this review has been repeated 20 years later.

According to the surveys conducted, undemocratic statements are accepted by members of both parties in the United States, but are more supported by Republicans.
About 90 percent of Republicans support tough leaders who crack down on groups that “undermine American values.” More than half of the Democrats have the same position. In addition, almost half of the citizens who strongly support the Republican Party and more than a third of those who strongly support the Democratic Party consider this action as acceptable for people to achieve their “political goals”.
In this regard, another research shows that Americans, in both political spectrums, are willing to sacrifice democratic principles and practices for the victory of their political party in the elections. In this regard, the supporters of each party see the other party as an existential threat to the country and consider them as dishonest, immoral and ignorant people.
All this evidence shows, more people in certain circumstances in America are willing to support political violence. Accordingly, most American citizens prefer leaders who are willing to undermine the principles of democracy. Although the majority of Americans do not accept this belief, a significant portion of them do accept and support it.
