Amnesty Int’l: Gaza ceasefire is misleading.
According to the Palestinian Information Center, Anis Callamard emphasized that Israel’s actions amount to genocide and that the world should not be misled by appearances. She explained, “A ceasefire could create the illusion that life in Gaza has returned to normal, but the reality is that the situation is more critical than ever.”
Callamard noted that although Israeli authorities have reduced the intensity of their ground attacks and allowed some limited humanitarian aid into Gaza, these actions should not deceive the international community regarding the current reality. She concluded by reiterating that the genocide perpetrated by Israel has not ceased, and the world must continue monitoring the situation and pressuring Israel to stop these actions completely.
On the other hand, Hazem Qassem, spokesperson for the Hamas movement, previously stated that the Gaza Strip is facing an escalating disaster due to an incoming cold air system. He pointed out that rain and extreme cold have flooded the tents of displaced individuals, leaving thousands of vulnerable people—including children, women, and the sick—trapped in harsh and inhumane conditions.
Qassem attributed the current situation to the ongoing siege, the prevention of reconstruction efforts, widespread destruction of infrastructure, and severe weather conditions. He emphasized that these factors contribute to a continuing genocidal war against the people of Gaza, manifesting through cold, hunger, and homelessness.
He also called on international and regional institutions, including the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations, to take urgent action to provide shelter, clothing, heating facilities, and essential humanitarian aid.
Furthermore, Qassem warned that with the onset of winter, it will become increasingly difficult for displaced people in Gaza to endure these conditions, highlighting the need for urgent and effective global action. The relentless rain on the devastated land of Gaza has once again resulted in a humanitarian disaster, as thousands of Palestinian refugees, who have been denied alternative accommodations by Israel, awaken to find rainwater seeping into their tents, destroying their last means of survival.
