Ankara: 343 people arrested in Türkiye.
According to Anadolu Agency, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya wrote in a message he posted on his X social media account on Saturday: “In matters related to the Istanbul Municipality, 343 people were arrested last night in 9 cities including Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, Adana, Antalya, Çanakkale, Eskişehir, Konya and Edirne.”
The Turkish Interior Minister continued: “We will not allow anyone to disrupt public order and public security, and we will deal decisively with any chaos and provocative actions. Our police forces are on duty around the clock to maintain the peace and security of the country.”
Following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who is considered the main rival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the cities of the country, especially Istanbul and Izmir, became the scene of widespread protests against the government.
