Ansarullah’s reaction to US action: It has no legitimacy

PNN – In response to the US decision to put Yemen on the sanctions list, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, a member of the Supreme Political Council of Yemen, stated: The arrival of aid to Gaza is more important to us than the US decision, a decision that has no legitimacy.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, citing Al-Mayadeen Network, Al-Houthi added: Preventing aid from entering Gaza and thwarting peace agreements is American terrorism, contrary to our legitimate support for Gaza, which is carried out through naval operations.

Marco Rubio said in a statement on Tuesday local time: Today, the State Department is fulfilling one of President Trump’s first promises when he took office, and I am pleased to announce that the State Department has designated Ansarullah, also known as the Houthis, as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.

He claimed: As President Trump stated in Executive Order No. 14175, Houthi activities pose a threat to the safety of American civilians and personnel in the Middle East, the safety of our closest regional partners, and the stability of global maritime commerce.

The US Secretary of State added: Since 2023, the Houthis have carried out hundreds of attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, as well as against American forces defending freedom of navigation and our regional partners. Recently, while the Houthis have targeted American and allied ships, they have not attacked Chinese-flagged vessels.

Rubio claimed: The United States will not tolerate any country that interacts with terrorist organizations like the Houthis in the name of conducting legitimate international trade.

Secretary of State Trump claimed: Today’s action by the State Department demonstrates the Trump Administration’s commitment to protecting our national security interests, the safety of the American people, and the security of the United States. Designating terrorist organizations plays a vital role in the fight against terrorism and is an effective way to limit support for terrorist activities.

Previously, the White House announced that, on the orders of new US President Donald Trump, Ansarullah Yemen has been placed back on the list of foreign terrorist organizations.

According to the White House, the order begins a process by which Ansarullah, also known as the Houthis, will be designated as a foreign terrorist organization.

The Joe Biden administration removed the Ansarullah movement from Washington’s terrorist list in 2021, with the aim of facilitating Yemeni peace talks. However, following the escalation of the Gaza war and the resistance forces’ defense against Israel, in 2024, it ordered the Houthis to be designated as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Entity (SDGT) but refused to re-register them as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).
