Anti-Iranian claims by the US representative on the IAEA Board of Governors.

According to the website of the US Mission to International Organizations in Vienna, the mission announced in a statement today, Wednesday, at today’s meeting of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency: The United States expresses its gratitude to the Director General (Rafael Grossi) for his May 31 report on verification and monitoring in Iran in light of UN Security Council Resolution 2231.

Howard Solomon, the acting US representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency, without referring to the current government’s action in unilaterally violating UN Security Council Resolution 2231 in 2018 and withdrawing from the 2015 nuclear agreement with Iran, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), claimed: The Director General’s report clearly shows that Iran continues to accelerate its nuclear activities without any credible civilian justification and is taking actions that deepen concerns about Tehran’s true intentions!

Without referring to the Israeli regime’s nuclear weapons arsenal and mass destruction in the region, he made a ridiculous claim: Iran is the only country in the world that produces uranium enriched to 60% and does not have nuclear weapons. This action has no credible civilian use! The Director General emphasizes that Iran’s rapid accumulation of highly enriched uranium is a serious concern that the Agency cannot ignore, given the potential consequences of nuclear proliferation!

Howard Solomon continued: The United States is negotiating an agreement that allows us to say with confidence what President Trump has said time and again: Iran will never obtain a nuclear weapon. Iran now has a clear opportunity to build trust: by providing greater transparency to the Agency; by implementing the Additional Protocol, not limiting inspections; by ending the production of highly enriched uranium, not accelerating it; By accepting the appointment of IAEA inspectors, not weakening IAEA verification. This path forward begins with Iran halting its nuclear activities, fulfilling its safeguards obligations, and allowing the IAEA to provide assurances that its nuclear program is peaceful. Continuing in the opposite direction will only push Iran further away from its goals.

This is despite Iranian officials repeatedly emphasizing Tehran’s right to enrich uranium and use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes as a party to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
