According to al-Mayadeen, the United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of Palestine’s full membership in this organization.
The UN General Assembly resolution for Palestine’s full membership in this organization was approved with 143 votes in favor, 9 votes against, and 25 abstentions.
After the approval of this resolution, the appeal for membership will be sent to the Security Council.
The UN General Assembly announced that it has made recommendations to the Security Council for a positive review of Palestine’s full membership in this body.
The Assembly emphasized that the Palestinians are eligible for full membership in the United Nations.
The resolution of the United Nations General Assembly has emphasized strengthening the rights and privileges of the Palestinian state in the United Nations without the need to issue permission to it in the General Assembly.
The resolution also allows Palestine to table proposals and amendments at UN meetings, something it was previously unable to do.
Mahmoud Abbas, the head of the Palestinian Authority, welcomed this action of the United Nations General Assembly and said that Palestine will continue its efforts to become a full member of the United Nations until the last moment.
On the other hand, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz quickly criticized this decision and described it as ridiculous and a prize for the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), which is hurting the negotiations for the release of Israeli prisoners.
At the beginning of this meeting, the President of the United Nations General Assembly asked all parties to try to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
