Arab Contact Committee: All military operations in Syria must cease immediately.

According to Al-Mayadeen, the Arab Contact Committee, at the end of its meeting on Syria in the Jordanian city of Aqaba, emphasized its stand with the Syrian people and respect for their will and choice.

The Arab Contact Committee stated: We support a peaceful, inclusive Syrian-Syrian political transition process in which all political and social forces in Syria are present. An inclusive transitional governing body must be formed with the consensus of the Syrian people and implement the steps specified in UN Security Council Resolution 2254 for the transition to a new political system.

The statement states: Free and fair elections must be held under UN supervision, based on the new constitution approved by the Syrians, and within a specific time frame by the mechanism of the Security Council resolution. We support the role of the UN envoy to Syria and call on the UN Secretary-General to provide him with all the necessary facilities.

The Arab Contact Committee emphasized that action must be taken to establish a UN mission to assist Syria in supporting and overseeing the transition process in the country. This critical stage requires a comprehensive national dialogue and solidarity of all political and social groups and forces in Syria. All military operations must be stopped immediately.

The Arab Contact Committee also stressed the need to respect without discrimination the rights of all groups of the Syrian people, to preserve the Syrian government institutions, to prevent chaos in the country, to support efforts to combat terrorism, to stand in solidarity with Syria in supporting its unity, territorial integrity, and to preserve its sovereignty, security, and stability, to prepare conditions for the return of Syrian refugees to their homeland, to provide them with the necessary assistance, and to achieve national reconciliation and the principles of justice in the transitional process based on legal and humanitarian criteria without reprisals.

In the following statement, the member states of the Committee condemned the entry of the Zionist regime into the buffer zone in Syrian territory and its surrounding positions in Jabal al-Sheikh, Quneitra, and the suburbs of Damascus, and the regime’s airstrikes on various areas and facilities in Syria.

The meeting was held at the level of foreign ministers of the member countries of the Arab Contact Committee, including Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt, and the Secretary-General of the Arab League, and was attended by the foreign ministers of Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Turkey. In addition, the countries of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States, as well as the European Union’s foreign policy chief and the UN special envoy for Syria, also attended the meetings of this committee.
