PNN – The Arab League strongly condemned the action of the Israeli authorities in approving the establishment of 34 new Zionist settlements in the West Bank, calling this action a “dangerous escalation of tension” that is a serious violation of international law.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network; The Arab League Secretariat stressed that this decision by the Israeli authorities is inconsistent with and violates the relevant Geneva Conventions, as well as the resolutions of international legitimacy issued by the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations, all of which emphasize the illegality of settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Arab League, in a statement issued by the “Palestinian and Occupied Arab Territories Section,” said that these unilateral measures would only exacerbate tensions and instability in the region, according to Arti.
The Arab League stressed that the organized expansion of settlements “directly undermines the chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace” and hinders international efforts to resume a serious and credible political process, which should be based on the two-state solution, leading to an end to the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty within the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Arab League warned that the continuation of these policies constitutes a dangerous violation of the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people and imposes realities on the ground that could change the demographic and geographical composition of the occupied territories, contrary to the rules of international law.
The League Secretariat also called on the international community, and in particular the Security Council, to fulfill their legal and moral responsibilities and take practical and effective measures, including the activation of international accountability mechanisms, to immediately put an end to these escalating violations related to settlement construction.
