Arab News report; the effort of the Biden administration to influence more in West Asia

Pak Sahafat – In a report, “Arab News” wrote about the consensus of experts regarding the change in the Middle East policies of the Biden administration and analyzed why.

According to the report of Pak Sahafat News Agency International Group, “Arab News” magazine, in a report it recently published, wrote about the consensus of experts evaluating the foreign policy of the United States of America regarding the drastic change in the Middle East policies of the Biden administration and stated that this issue has long been considered by the Middle East Institute in Washington DC.

In this meeting, experts put forward two main arguments for changing the position of the Biden administration: The first case is the war between Russia and Ukraine and the second case is the increase of China’s regional influence. One of the experts in this regard states that the war between Russia and Ukraine and the increase of China’s footprint in the Middle East has created a dangerous tone in the Biden White House.

Arab News wrote in this regard: Biden realized last spring that his traditional allies like Saudi Arabia are leaning towards China. The Chinese-mediated agreement between Iran and Saudi Arabia was also considered a very worrying moment for the White House earlier this year.

“Dennis Rice”, a former adviser to several democratic and republican governments on Middle East affairs, stated that the Biden administration did not pay much attention to the West Asian region since it took office in 2021; however, the Ukraine-Russia conflicts and not just the oil and energy issues have pushed the Biden administration to re-engage in the Middle East.

According to Rice, “the worldview of the Biden government has also played a very important role in this change of position. He wants to create a liberal international order based on American laws to deal with the threats of China and Russia. However, Biden has realized that he needs non-democratic countries to advance his goals in this field. Countries that have a lot of assets and can be part of your coalition or at least make sure that they will not be in the coalition of other countries.

According to Arab News, “Biden’s policy towards West Asia is more related to China than to Russia; with the argument that he thinks that the war in Ukraine has created so many distractions for the Russians that they cannot have much time to focus on the Middle East.

The recent trips of Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken to Saudi Arabia are part of Biden’s efforts to re-engage with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

According to this report, however, another action of the Biden government to influence in West Asia is in line with the basic measures to counter Iran’s nuclear program. In this regard, in July 2022, after visiting occupied Palestine, he traveled to Saudi Arabia to sell the idea of ”Arab NATO” to them, a kind of military coalition in the Middle East supported by the US, which was designed only to confront Iran. However, Biden’s idea was completely rejected by the Saudis, because they were on the way to re-engage with the Islamic Republic of Iran.
