Washington Post

PNN – Simultaneously with the publication of news about the possibility of talks between Tehran and Washington in Turkey, the Washington Post newspaper published a report claiming that the presence of some Arab countries in the region and allies of Iran and the United States was also discussed in the meeting.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, this American newspaper reported that two regional officials involved in efforts to reduce tensions in the region announced that US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Whittaker is scheduled to meet with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in Istanbul on Friday to discuss a nuclear deal.

According to the officials, who asked not to be named, the planning for the meeting follows intensive efforts by Turkey, Qatar, Egypt and other Middle Eastern countries to reduce tensions between Tehran and Washington.

The foreign ministers of Turkey, Qatar and Egypt are also expected to attend the meeting, along with their counterparts from Oman, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, according to a regional official. Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, who has also been involved in the Gaza and Ukraine talks, has been confirmed alongside Whittkoff.

On the other hand, a US official said that much work remains to be done before the Istanbul meeting is finalized. At the same time, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, although he did not confirm such a meeting, added that Tehran is reviewing the framework for possible talks.

The two regional officials also noted that Washington’s Arab and Turkish allies are trying to focus the scope of the negotiations on the nuclear program and attract a positive view from Iran, and will continue to try to find creative ways to address Washington’s non-nuclear demands.
