Arrested Palestinian activist and his wife face deportation from US

PNN – The American NBC News network announced: The wife of Mahmoud Khalil, a Columbia University student and pro-Palestinian activist facing deportation, said she was “naive” to think her husband would not be detained by immigration agents.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the American NBC News network announced, in her first public comments since her husband’s arrest on Thursday, Noor Abdullah said that Khalil had asked her just two days before the arrest if she knew what to do if Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers came to the door.

Noor Abdullah, an American citizen and the couple’s first child due next month, said: I didn’t take him seriously. It’s clear I was naive.

Mahmoud Khalil, a 30-year-old green card holder, played a key role in the pro-Palestinian protests at Columbia University last year, which helped spread similar protests to campuses across the country.

According to a document released by NBC, the administration of US President Donald Trump has declared that Khalil is “at risk of deportation from the United States.”

The document states: The US Secretary of State has determined that your presence or activities in the United States will have serious negative foreign policy consequences for our country.

Mahmoud Khalil was arrested Saturday in the lobby of a university-owned apartment building in Manhattan and then transferred to a facility in New Jersey and then to Louisiana.

Khalil is an Algerian citizen of Palestinian origin who was born in a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria. He arrived in the United States in 2022 on a student visa and received his green card two years later.

NBC News said: Khalil is now a legal permanent resident of the United States and his arrest reflects the Trump administration’s efforts to suppress pro-Palestinian protests on campuses and expel the leaders of these protests.

Mahmoud Khalil’s wife, Noor Abdullah, a 28-year-old dentist, also appeared in court in New York on Wednesday, with Khalil’s lawyers arguing that her detention and possible deportation violates her constitutional rights to free speech.
