Australia’s dual policy towards Palestine; Cease fire yes, independent country no!

PNN – The resignation of the Australian parliament member from the Labor Party was met with a strong reaction to the dual policy of the country’s government towards Palestine; Canberra is seeking a ceasefire in Gaza while not recognizing the independent state of Palestine.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the ruling Labor Party of Australia has been criticized for its dual policy towards Palestine; Canberra, which supports the ceasefire in Gaza, does not recognize the Palestinian state.

Australia’s ruling party’s policies came under scrutiny after the resignation of Fatemeh Peyman, who had been suspended for supporting the parliament’s motion to recognize Palestine, and resigned in protest.

Peyman accused Labor of intimidating him and forcing him to toe the party line and told reporters: “My family did not flee a war-torn country and come here as refugees to remain silent in the face of crimes against innocent people.”

He added: “Our government’s indifference towards the biggest injustice of our time makes me question the direction of the party.”

Previously, two proposals to recognize Palestine as an independent state, presented by the opposition Green Party, were voted on in May and June.

Pro-Palestinian workers from New South Wales say the ruling party has backed away from its position on recognizing an independent state, which it sees as dependent on a peace process.

This civil activist organization wrote: The Labor Party has delayed the recognition of Palestine for an unknown time.

Lawyer and human rights defender Rovan Araf, who is the executive director of the Australian Center for International Justice, said of Australia’s move: Since the beginning of the Gaza war last October, which has led to the death of more than 38,000 Palestinians, the priority of the ruling party of Australia is to take revenge on the agreement for commenting against this genocide.

Journalist Shantel Al Khoury said it was “very strange” to listen to a radio program where Labor MP Michelle Ananda Raja was speaking. He refused to call his former colleague, Fateme Peyman.

Anthony Albanese, the prime minister of Australia, said: Political parties based on religion will undermine social cohesion in Australia.

Albanese’s comments followed the openly Islamophobic statements of the opposition Liberal Party of Peter Dutton’s ruling party.

Some analysts believe that the ruling party of Australia seeks cooperation with Muslim countries, but the country’s policies, influenced by the United States and England, do not even allow the issue of the independent state of Palestine to be raised in the parliament.
