Axios: Israel seeks to adjust its stance towards Hamas.

The outlet quoted a senior Israeli official as saying on Monday night that Israel is prepared to adjust some of its positions to reach a draft agreement for the release of prisoners and a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip that would be acceptable to Hamas, but it will not agree to a commitment that a temporary ceasefire will lead to an end to the war.

According to Axios, Hamas’s demand for a commitment to an end to the war is the main point of disagreement between the parties. Israeli officials claim that at this stage, there is no indication that Hamas is willing to enter into a new agreement with Israel that would guarantee a 60-day ceasefire without receiving guarantees to end the war.

“We have no problem changing some of the terms of the agreement,” a senior Israeli official told Axios. “Hamas wants certainty that the war will end, they will not get that certainty. But as far as certainty goes, we are willing to be flexible.”

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the Southern Command to discuss the negotiations for a hostage deal and the continuation of the war in Gaza.

One of the issues raised at yesterday’s meeting was concerns about the increasing risk to the lives of the prisoners due to the situation in Gaza, according to Axios. A senior Israeli official said Israel wants to reach an agreement because the risk to the lives of the prisoners is increasing with each passing day.
