Axios: Very good progress made in Rome talks.

Citing Al Jazeera, Axios reported that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told US envoy Steve Whittaker that a final nuclear deal might not be reached by Trump’s proposed deadline, citing two sources.

They added that Araqchi asked Whittaker if it was possible to negotiate an interim deal first. He also stressed that the technical details of any nuclear deal would make it very difficult to complete the negotiations within 60 days.

According to the report, Whittaker told Araqchi that he did not want to talk about an interim deal but was focused on achieving a comprehensive agreement within 60 days. He added that if the two sides needed more time, they could talk about reaching an interim deal.

Axios also reported, citing a US official, that Whittaker and Araqchi had made “very good progress” in the Rome talks. The sources also claimed that the two sides could meet later this week in Oman after technical talks.
