Barcelona suspended relations with Israel.
Simultaneously with the escalation of tensions between Spain and the Zionist regime, the Barcelona City Council agreed on Friday to cut off relations with this regime until the final ceasefire in Gaza and compliance with international resolutions.

The authorities of the second most populous city of Spain, protesting the positions of the Zionist regime, made relations with this regime subject to a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

According to Anatolia news agency, the Barcelona city council approved a declaration on Friday suspending relations with Israel until a permanent ceasefire is established in Gaza and Tel Aviv respects the basic rights of the Palestinian people.

The Turkish state media announced that this is not the first time that Barcelona has cut ties with Israel.

February 2023, Ada Colao, the then mayor of Barcelona, suspended the city’s relations with Israel as well as the sisterhood agreement with Tel Aviv, but in September, after losing the election to Jaume Colboni from the Socialist Party, the new mayor of the relations with the Zionist regime and Tel Aviv revived.

The declaration approved by the Barcelona City Council was proposed by the party affiliated with the former mayor of this city and other parties in the council agreed to it.

The Barcelona municipality’s support for the Palestinians has been carried out in a situation where Spain’s relations with the Zionist regime have become tense as a result of the Gaza war.

Following the recent trip of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croo to occupied Palestine and Egypt, these two senior Western officials condemned the actions of the Zionist regime.

During his visit to Egypt, the Prime Minister of Spain announced that he would make the recognition of Palestine one of the priorities of his government, and if the European Union does not recognize Palestine, Spain may take action on its own.

In a statement approved by the Barcelona City Council, they condemned “Hamas and Israel” for attacks on “civilians”. The Barcelona City Council also condemned any collective punishment, forced displacement, systematic destruction of homes and civil infrastructure, and cutting off energy, water, food, and medical supplies to Gaza.

According to the council of Spain’s second most populous city, “occupation and colonization of Palestinian lands” and “denial of people’s rights” are the main obstacles to peace in the region.
