Beijing urges US to end trade bullying.

A statement from China’s WTO mission, published on India’s First Post news website, said Beijing considers the US to be a violator of multilateral commitments and undermining the credibility of the global trading system, and believes it is distorting global trade norms.

The statement came as China’s Commerce Ministry released its annual report, which highlighted Washington’s commitment to WTO rules and stressed that the US was undermining the multilateral trading system by using trade bullying policies and double standards in industrial policy.

According to China’s annual report, which has been published since 2023, 11 key areas were identified in which US trade practices violated WTO rules. The report said the US is investigating the trade situation through policies such as “Buy American,” discriminatory measures in global cooperation, export controls and sanctions, investment disclosure, intellectual property, tariffs and non-tariff barriers, and industrial and agricultural subsidies.

The report also objectively describes a series of US actions, including circumventing the dispute settlement mechanism, unilaterally imposing reciprocal tariffs, and discriminatory trade measures, to make the international community aware of Washington’s wrongdoings.

In addition, China’s new report comprehensively assesses the US’s compliance with its obligations under the WTO and discusses efforts by China and other WTO members to address US non-compliance with WTO rules. This is the third report since 2023 that the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has issued to examine the US’s compliance with WTO rules.
