PNN – The Three European countries Belgium, Denmark and Spain welcomed the vote of the United Nations General Assembly for Palestine’s full membership in this international organization and the recommendation to revise the Security Council’s previous decision in this regard.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, quoted by Anatolia news agency, Belgian Foreign Minister Hajjah Lahabib wrote on X social network: We were among the drafters of this resolution on the status of Palestine in the United Nations and we voted for it.
He added: The message sent by Belgium in this regard is clear. Palestine must have a full place in international organizations. This issue is an important step towards a two-state solution and a valid peace process.
On the other hand, Danish Foreign Minister Lars Loke Rasmussen wrote in X: Today we gave a stronger voice to Palestine in the United Nations. I hope that this resolution will be a source of hope for the future of the Palestinian people in this dark time.
He also promised that Denmark will continue to support the two-state solution.
Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albarez also wrote in X that his country “was one of the drafters of this resolution and along with 142 other countries voted in favor of the resolution for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations.”
Meanwhile, Josep Burrell, the European Union’s foreign policy official, stated that four European countries, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Malta, intend to recognize Palestine as an independent country.
The UN General Assembly’s draft resolution on Palestine’s full membership in the UN was approved on Friday with 143 votes in favor, 9 votes against and 25 abstentions.
Palestine is currently a non-member observer in the United Nations, but for years it has been trying to become a full member of this international body. This effort was vetoed by the United States in the UN Security Council last month.
Nevertheless, the UN General Assembly reviewed the draft resolution on Palestine’s full membership in the UN in its emergency session on Friday.
Although this resolution does not make Palestine a full member of the United Nations, it gives Palestine more rights and privileges, such as joining various organizations and institutions of the United Nations.
