Biden warns of potential confrontation between the US and Russia.
The US president once again warned that this country could potentially get into a confrontation with Russia if Ukraine is defeated in the war.
President Biden has warned that if the Kremlin is successful in its war with Ukraine, the United States will be at risk of confrontation with Russia. The President’s comments come in response to Russia’s extensive airstrikes across Ukraine on Friday. According to Kyiv air force officials, approximately 110 missiles hit Ukraine, targeting hospitals, residential buildings, and a shopping center. Ukrainian officials claim that at least 31 Ukrainian citizens have been killed and 120 others injured in these attacks.
In a statement released by Biden, he stated, “Russia conducted its largest airstrikes since the start of the war in Ukraine in one night. This is a clear reminder to the world that nearly two years into this devastating war, Putin’s goal has not changed. He seeks to destroy Ukraine and subjugate its people, and his actions must be stopped.”
The 22-month war has escalated tensions between Russia and NATO member states, who have provided military and weapon assistance to Ukraine in the billions of dollars. However, support for Ukraine in countries like the United States has declined, where Republican lawmakers have prevented additional aid to the country and conditioned further assistance on the Biden administration reaching an agreement to reform the country’s immigration system.
Biden also highlighted on Friday that some Ukrainian forces were able to track and intercept some of the missiles and drones launched by Russia through air defense systems provided by the United States.
He emphasized that the United States cannot continue to provide “vital and important weapons and air defense systems” to Ukraine until the U.S. Congress takes “urgent action in the new year.” Biden also stated that the risks of war between this country and Russia go far beyond the war between Russia and Ukraine and could impact the entire NATO alliance, European security, and the future of transatlantic relations.
