Biden’s war powers were challenged in Yemen.
In a letter to the President of that country, Joe Biden, four representatives of the US Senate have criticized him for using his powers and carrying out attacks in Yemen without a vote in Congress.
Tim Cain, Todd Young, Chris Murphy and Mike Lee wrote in this letter: “The government has stated that attacks on Houthi positions have not deterred their attacks to date and will not deter them, which shows that we are in a regional conflict. “We continue that there is a risk of its escalation.”
Four American senators, while stating that the attacks of the American army in Yemen, stated: “Although the Houthis and their supporters, Iran, are responsible for the escalation of tensions, our constitution requires that the United States, except in a situation where it is necessary to repel a sudden attack, from “Do not take military action without the vote of Congress.”
They also noted: “We have long called for congressional consultation and authorization for decisions that put the lives of our soldiers at risk overseas. “Currently, there is no congressional authorization for military action against the Houthis.”
The senators have asked the Biden administration, in a situation where the White House believes that the attacks in Yemen will not restrain the Yemenis, what is their definition of “self-defense”?
