Bin Salman at the White House: The Saudi prince’s strategic moves in the power arena.

The news agency wrote in its report: Bin Salman is also seeking to prove to US President Donald Trump that supporting his strong leadership is worth such a gamble.

Reuters, stating that Tuesday’s meeting between Trump and Bin Salman shows that US-Saudi relations are based on strategic interests, noted that Bin Salman’s visit is the first since the crisis of Saudi critic Jamal Khashoggi, whose murder sparked global outrage.

Khashoggi was a Saudi columnist, journalist, and author, the director and editor-in-chief of the Al Arab News Network, and a critic of the Saudi government who also wrote for the Washington Post. He went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2, 2018, and disappeared. The media announced, based on evidence, that Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi consulate in Turkey, and his body was dismembered and removed from there.

About a year after the incident, on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in an interview with the American public radio station PBS, accepted responsibility for Khashoggi’s murder, saying that the murder was carried out by a group under his supervision and that he accepts full responsibility for it, but at the same time claimed that his murder was not carried out with his prior knowledge.
