Blinken’s concern about the US foreign policy in the Trump administration

PNN – The US foreign minister expressed concern about the change in US foreign policy, including in the Middle East and Ukraine, in the administration of Donald Trump.

According to the report of Pakistan News Network from the Associated Press news agency, Anthony Blinken, whose tenure as US Secretary of State is coming to an end, in an interview with this news agency on Friday, expressed hope that the Trump administration will continue the key points in US foreign policy, but this senior US diplomat said that he is concerned that Trump’s team will abandon most, if not all, of US foreign policy in Ukraine and the Middle East.

Justifying his concern, Blinken claimed that the new US administration may not follow the initiative of Biden’s security team to end the Gaza war and help Ukraine, and refuse to maintain alliances with key partners.

He said that when we took over the government, we inherited coalitions and partnerships that were seriously messed up. So if the past is any guide, yes, the coming of the new US administration will be worrisome.

Criticism of the former American diplomat: Gaza crimes will not leave “Blinken” until the end of his life

The Associated Press wrote: President-elect Trump has been skeptical of US alliances, including NATO and the Asia-Pacific defense partnership, all of which Biden’s team has worked to strengthen over the past four years. Trump has also criticized US military aid to Ukraine and praised Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This news agency claimed: However, Trump’s new envoy in the Middle East has been deeply involved in helping the Biden administration mediate to reach a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.

Declaring that the plans implemented in the Biden administration were the best plans, Blinken said: Of course, there is no guarantee that our successors will look at them, rely on them, but at least there is an option. At least they can decide whether these plans are a good basis to proceed with.

Trump and his team have not even hidden their desire to purge the State Department and fire people they believe lack the necessary loyalty to the president. Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Trump’s pick to replace Blinken, has said he respects the Foreign Service, but he has yet to offer any plans for how to manage the department.

Blinken and the Biden administration as a whole have been heavily criticized for their poor performance in the chaotic withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan in 2021 and more recently for supporting the Israeli regime in its war with Hamas. Critics accuse them of not imposing meaningful limits on arms shipments to Tel Aviv or pressuring their ally enough to ease the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
