PNN – Bloomberg Television reported today that the United States remains hopeful that a comprehensive ceasefire between the warring parties will be finalized by April 20, despite continued reciprocal attacks between Russia and Ukraine and Moscow’s reluctance to reach a quick agreement.
According to the report of Pakistan News Network, the website of this economic network, citing informed sources, wrote that the White House intends to reach a ceasefire agreement by April 20, the simultaneous celebration of Easter in the Western and Orthodox churches.
However, given the deep gaps between the positions of the parties involved, Washington acknowledges that such an event may be delayed.
According to Bloomberg, in the first parallel talks in recent years, American officials will meet separately with representatives of Russia and Ukraine in Saudi Arabia in the coming days.
According to informed sources, Russia has put forward maximum demands to reach an agreement, including an end to the shipment of weapons to Ukraine.
Kiev and its allies have rejected the demand, and the White House, which briefly halted vital arms deliveries earlier this month to pressure Ukraine, has not yet agreed to any restrictions.
European officials fear that U.S. President Donald Trump’s desire for diplomatic victory could lead him to sacrifice Ukraine’s interests and agree to terms that leave the country vulnerable to future Russian attacks. They argue that Russian President Vladimir Putin is playing for time to extract more concessions from Trump and advance on the battlefield.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is sending his defense minister and two senior presidential aides to Saudi Arabia for upcoming talks, hoping to finalize a list of targets that would be covered by a limited ceasefire.
However, Putin is sending low-level officials to the talks, and according to informed sources, they are tasked with discussing only general issues.
According to Bloomberg sources, the Kremlin will not agree to a meeting between Trump and Putin until a comprehensive peace agreement is reached; according to these people, such a meeting is unlikely until mid-April, and the United States will not agree to hold the meeting until a lasting ceasefire agreement is in place.
