Bombing the Jolani Palace: Israel’s Response to Syria’s Negotiations with the US.
The Zionist regime bombed the area around the Syrian presidential palace in Jaramana under the pretext of supporting the Druze. This action was carried out after the tensions in Jaramana with the forces of the Ministry of Defense of the interim government had calmed down with the mediation of local figures from both sides.
Observers emphasize that this unexpected attack by the Zionist regime near the palace of Mohammad Jolani is more related to the external developments in Syria than to the internal developments it is to prevent the restoration of Damascus’ relations with Washington.
It can be seen that the intensity of Israel’s attacks on Syria intensified after the presence of the interim government’s Foreign Minister, “Asad Shaibani”, in the United States. Asad Shaibani had traveled to New York a few weeks before these attacks under the pretext of raising the new Syrian flag at the United Nations. Although American officials have not commented on these negotiations because they do not yet recognize the new government in Damascus, the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper reported that negotiations had taken place between the two sides.
According to the report, the talks between the two sides took place after Damascus responded in writing to five of the eight requests from the Americans to establish relations. Barbara Leaf, the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, met with Asad al-Shaibani on the sidelines of a meeting of foreign ministers of the so-called Syrian-backed countries in Brussels on March 18, and gave the Syrian side these eight conditions.
Among the most important US demands from Syria were the destruction of the remaining chemical facilities, cooperation in the fight against terrorism, determining the status of foreign fighters, and assistance in finding Austin Tice, an American journalist who went missing in Syria.
According to the report, Syria responded to five of the eight requests from the US. Syria announced that it would cooperate fully in the chemical field. It would also cooperate in the field of terrorism and would not allow any threat to US interests in Syria. In this regard, they held secret talks with the CIA’s counterterrorism division in Amman, the capital of Jordan.
