BRICS developments: from the Brazil-China maritime route to the strategic partnership between Egypt and Indonesia.

According to BRICS TV, BRICS has witnessed significant developments over the past week.

In the field of transportation, China and Brazil have launched a new maritime route between the port of Gaolan in Zhuhai, China, and the cities of Salvador and Santana in Brazil.

This route is the result of agreements between the leaders of the two countries and provides new capacity for transportation and trade between the two continents.

In Africa, Egypt has established itself as the largest pharmaceutical market in the Arab region, with its pharmaceutical products exported to 147 countries around the world.

Also, in a significant development, the presidents of Egypt and Indonesia signed a statement in Cairo, upgrading bilateral relations to the level of a “strategic partnership.”

On the other hand, a senior Ethiopian diplomat announced that the country intends to join the BRICS New Development Bank (NDB) this year. According to him, Ethiopia has received the support of all the current members of the membership organization.

BRICS members have also launched a joint plan for the sustainable use of water resources and the preservation of agricultural land, to combat land degradation and protect soil. This issue was discussed at the second meeting of the BRICS Agriculture Working Group in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil.

In the field of health, the UAE has ranked first among the countries of the region in terms of the number of accredited medical centers in 2025 and has strengthened its global position in the health system by improving infrastructure, prevention, and basic treatment outcomes.

The Indian Embassy in Russia announced that in 2025, the reciprocal tourism flow between the two countries will exceed 450,000 people. In 2024 alone, more than 120,000 Indian tourists visited Russia. Moscow and New Delhi have also reached an agreement on facilitating sports travel.

Meanwhile, the South African Foreign Minister called for deepening economic cooperation with the Russian Federation. In this regard, a joint meeting of the Russia-South Africa Business Council was held in Moscow on April 15, and the expansion of South African exports to Russia was on the agenda.
